Plot Summary
Humans wake up in the world of the MMORPG they play after a big update. They do not know how they arrived or how to get out. This is a story of how these players (or “adventurers”) decide to move forward whether it’s finding a way back home or accepting their permanent existence in Elder Tales.
Key Themes
- Rebuilding civilisation — Originally everyone was out for themselves which led Shiroe, a famous, veteran solo player to take action and bring the town of Akihabara together.
- Relationship with People of the Land — These NPCs are as real as the players with back stories, memories but they die permanently. The adventurers are the invaders or foreigners and they need to move carefully.
- Shiroe fandom — Shiroe’s accomplishments and intelligence attract admiration of some of the characters including Akatsuki and Minori. How they reconcile with their feelings towards him gets a fair amount of screen time.
- New rules of the game — Adventurers respawn in this world but they are consequences some known, others not known which can have wider complications. There are also levels of magic from player level to world level that can have ramifications across the whole world
