Recently I watched Greg Goffried’s latest video on “How Long Does It Take To Make Money Selling Tshirts Online?” and wanted to expand on the tips mentioned. When I first got into Print On Demand, I learned a lot from his videos on how to approach selling T-shirts online. Now I’ve been in the game long enough myself I can speak from experience on how to best execute on his advice.

Feel free to go watch the video as he’s really good at explaining the practical side of making passive income.

Overall you can summarise the main pieces of advice into 7 guidelines for success.

  1. Target non-competitive niches by using Niche research tools
  2. Upload great designs using a T-shirt design tool
  3. Upload to multiple PoD sites including Teespring, RedBubble and Merch on Amazon
  4. Use Instagram to get first sales with the right hashtags
  5. Take notice of everyday t-shirts
  6. Capitalise on trends, holidays, seasons or events
  7. Don’t stop creating and uploading hundreds of different designs to all PoD sites

Target non-competitive niches by using Niche research tools

I’ll pretend he knows how to pronounce niches and say that this is a vital piece of advice. I’ve seen people recommend RedBubble Tags, Merch Informer, Google Trends and other quirky tools to find niches.

No matter how good your designs are if their subject matter is in a competitive, generic niche like “funny cats” you’ll never make a sale. It’s too saturated and probably a waste of your precious time.

Upload great designs using a T-shirt design tool

I’m a bit conflicted because great designs and T-shirt design tools don’t always match in my opinion. A great t-shirt…
