Hopkins Medicine Diagram on Carpal Syndrome

Believe it or not, the PS5 DualSense controllers are not so popular with everyone. The drastic change in design from the previous PS4 controllers have left many gamers in discomfort and potentially chronic injuries including Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is when the median nerve is compressed. The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway surrounded by bones and ligaments on the palm side of the hand. Symptoms include numbness, tingling, and weakness in the hand and arm.

If you have been experiencing weird sensations, discomfort or pains since using the PS5 DualSense controllers then here is some advice on how to protect your hand’s health whilst gaming.

What causes carpal tunnel syndrome

Carpal Syndrome tends to happen in the workplace where repetitive motion injuries occur.

CTS can be caused by anything that squeezes or irritates the median nerve in the carpal tunnel space. This includes repeatedly gripping hard vibrating tools hence the regular occurrences in workplaces whether it’s hands-on or an office job. The intense and repetitive nature of the activity is a key factor in developing carpal tunnel syndrome.
