Hopefully we are reaching the point where PS5s are more readily available so we can focus less on stock scalpers and more on actual games. PS4 dominated the last generation by a significant margin but there has been lack of launch titles to really take advantage of the new hardware. Fortunately this is the perfect opportunity to tackle the never-ending backlog of games you might have missed last gen that will receive a free next-gen upgrade leading to a significantly better experience on PS5.

Sony’s Statement on Backwards Compatibility of PS4 games on PS5 console

Sony has confirmed that PS4 games will be playable on the PS5, meaning that the PlayStation 5 is backwards compatible with the PS4. This means that you’ll be able to download games that you’ve purchased from the PlayStation Store on PS4 and play them on the PS5. You’ll also be able to insert physical PS4 discs into the PS5 and play them on the next-gen console.

Picking an online course can be tedious, overwhelming and outright frustrating for numerous reasons. There’s so many choices on the World Wide Web that it wouldn’t be surprising if you felt paralysed by the options on offer.

In this article I will briefly explain regularly overlooked factors when looking for an online course whether you want to take on Javascript or build towards a career in Data Science. …

This is the year to build your habit of reading. 2020 was the year where we were heavily consumed by unprecedented events that had a direct impact on our lives. We couldn’t (and still cannot in most countries) travel, exercise, socialise, commute or work as we used to. Now we are done feeling sorry for ourselves, it is time to spend less time on social media and we need to invest in one of the few daily habits immune to the destructive forces of this pandemic. It’s not about how many books you read, it’s the lessons you take from them alongside the many other benefits.

Jason Schreier has confirmed what a lot of gamers knew without actual proof. Cyberpunk 2077 was meant to be a third-person game. Any serious RPG with big ambitions of customisation and role-playing will always include a third-person mode. This just speaks to the disastrous development cycle this game has gone under and I can’t wait to read this in further detail in the next Blood, Sweat and Pixels book.

If you want to be truly valuable, find the least sexiest thing to fix. Nobody cares what you like to do, they care about what you can do for them. And a lot of problems that need fixing are not sexy. Everyone needs IT but hates it at the same time, why do you think Salesforce is so successful? They automate the boring stuff. Amazon.com doesn’t look as sexy as Apple but it is as valuable. Sexy is great, if it’s also functional and solves a real problem. But if you have to choose between sexy and useless or ugly and functional, then the latter always wins. Put your ego aside and consider focusing on solving real problems. Be valuable. Be indispensable. Be irreplaceable.

Your data science portfolio is not enough. It is simply a billboard to grab the attention of a recruiter. So yes, it must contain amazing ideas, technical excellence and creative problem solving. But can you prove you understand the value of your own work? Are you a master of the theory behind the models you’ve implemented? Do you have the personality traits to work with other specialists on multi-million dollar projects with rigour, grit and inventiveness?

“Stand on the shoulders of giants” is the best piece of advice for content creators in 2021. At the start of every year, people vow to start a YouTube Channel, blog, ecommerce business, Instagram brand only to crumble under the pressure of fighting Goliaths. Do not fear the oversaturated market nor the influencers with millions of followers. This is not you versus them. It is seeing their footprints leading to the same summit and doing it better. Iterate off their successes by paying homage, seeking mentorship and collaborating. Analyse but don’t copy. Learning from the best is the best route to mastery.

If you want to be a better thinker, be a better writer. Tim Ferris really hit the nail on the head when he said that writing is the only way to freeze your thinking in one place and see where you’re sharp or dull. Whether you are journalling, storytelling or problem solving, you are subconsciously trimming the fat and sharpening the edges of your ideas. Simply the process of slowing down your thoughts, reflecting on them and distilling insights is enough to reap the benefits of being a better thinker.

In this article, I am going to perform topic modelling on YouTube Comments I’ve extracted previously.

When performing topic modelling you need to identify:

  1. The Document
  2. The Paragraphs within the document
  3. The approach
  4. The assumptions

In this example, I will be using Cyberpunk 2077 YouTube trailer comment sections as my documents.

  1. The document — Whole comment section
  2. The paragraphs — Each individual comment
  3. The approach — LDA
  4. The assumptions — Similar words = Similar topics/ Re-occuring groups of words = similar topic

I will be following the steps outlined in this article as I felt everything was thoroughly explained step by step. …

Amongst the many applications of Natural Language Processing, automatic text summarising is a lot less popular but still has a lot of potential. We live in a time where we consume a lot more information than our brains can digest so algorithms that can break it down into essential pieces would be much appreciated.

This article will be an adaption of Luís Gonçalves Automatic Text Summarization Made Simple with Python where I will attempt to generate a summary of a Reddit post and compare it to the top comments within the thread.

The reason why I am using a Reddit post is because as it continues to grow in popularity I predict a strong interest in condensing the valuable information the platform is capable of providing. This code is for Python beginners with no requirements to train data or utilise any sophisticated statistical modelling. If you wish to do that, I’m sure there are articles such as this that goes into much more technical detail using Deep Learning and other advanced concepts. …
